POLICIES & GUIDELINES

The Kodokan Matsubayashi-ryu Cummings Karate Dojo, as a part of the Centre for Martial Arts & Human Development Incorporated (A05032/ABN 32 634 133 935), endorses the following below policies. Additionally, we also adhere to the policies of the Australian Karate Federation.

1. Membership
  • All members of the Cummings Karate Dojo agree to abide by the rules, etiqeutte and policies of the Centre, as per the membership agreement and the CMAHD Inc Constitution.

2. Instructor Accreditation and Student Development
There are three levels of instructor accreditation. All instructors will posess a Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration.
  • Brown and Black Belts not in a Class Assistant or Instructor role
    • Receive a 50% discount on First Aid & CPR
  • Class Assistant 'Joshu' (assists under the guidance of an Assistant Instructor or Instructor)
    • No less than 5th Kyu for Juniors Program, and 3rd Kyu for Seniors Program. Always supervised by an Assistant Instructor or Instructor
    • ASC Community Coaching General Principles
    • Receive a discount of $20 per month while active in the Class Assistant role; 75% discount on First Aid & CPR; 10% discount on NCAS Coach accreditation
  • Assistant Instructor 'Fuku-Shidoin' (who may take classes on their own)
    • Minimum of 6 months experience as a Class Assistant
    • Internal Instructor Training Seminar
    • No less than 1st Kyu for the Juniors Program, and 1st Dan for the Seniors Program
    • ASC Community Coaching General Principles, First Aid & CPR, PBTR - Child Protection, and PBTR - Harassment and Discrimination
    • Accredited Karate Coach under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (or enrolment in the course)
    • Receive a discount of $40 per month while active in the Assistant Instructor role; 100% discount on First Aid & CPR; 50% discount on NCAS Coach accreditation
  • Instructor 'Shidoin' (who may run a sub-branch dojo)
    • Minimum of 1 year experience as an Assistant Instructor
    • No less than 2nd Dan
    • ASC Community Coaching General Principles, First Aid & CPR, PBTR - Child Protection, and PBTR - Harassment and Discrimination
    • Accredited Karate Coach under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme
    • Receive a discount of $60 per month while active in the Instructor role; 100% discount on First Aid & CPR; 100% discount on NCAS Coach accreditation
  • Head Instructor/Branch Director 'Kancho' (who supervises all instructors in the ACT)
    • No less than 3rd Dan
    • ASC Community Coaching General Principles, First Aid & CPR, PBTR - Child Protection, and PBTR - Harassment and Discrimination
    • Accredited Karate Coach under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme
    • Diploma of Sport Coaching
    • Licensed by the World Matsubayashi-ryu Karate-do Association Okinawan Headquarters as a dojo owner and instructor
Note: Discount for First Aid & CPR course applies up to a maximum of $120.

3. Insurance
CMAHD Inc, maintains the following specialist sports insurance, including for injury of members, and:
  • Public Liability Insurance ($20mil)
  • Products Liability Insurance ($20mil)
  • Professional Indemnity ($5mil)
  • Management Liability Insurance
  • Business Insurance (contents & plate glass)

3. Prohibited Weapons
The CMAHD Inc complies with the Prohibited Weapons Act 1996 (ACT) and the Head Instructor holds a current weapons licence/permit for weapons (nunchaku and tonfa) used and taught in the dojo.

4. Harassment and Discrimination
The CMAHD Inc endorses and follows the guidelines set for by the Australian Sports Commissions. The CMAHD Inc also follows the harassment-free sport guidelines for officials set down by Clearinghouse for Sport.

5. Injury Prevention
The CMAHD Inc endorses and follows the Better Health Victoria's injury prevention policy.

The CMAHD Inc endorses and follows the guidelines set forth by the Australian Sports Commission.

8. Hot Weather
The CMAHD Inc endorses and follows the guidelines set forth by Sports Medicine Australia. In addition, if the air temperature is set to be 31°C 30 minutes before the scheduled start of a class, junior students are permitted to wear a dojo t-shirt or plain white t-shirt. If the air temperature is set to be 36°C or above 30 minutes before the scheduled start of class and is not expected to decrease, the class may be cancelled and students will be notified via text message.

The CMAHD Inc endorses and follows the guidelines set forth by Sports Medicine Australia.

The CMAHD Inc endorses and follows the guidelines set forth by Sports Mediciine Australia.

11. Child & Member Protection
The CMAHD Inc endorses and follows the guidelines set forth by the Australian Sports Commission. The CMAHD Inc also follows the harassment-free sport guidelines for protecting children from abuse in sport set down by Clearinghouse for Sport.

The CMAHD Inc endorses and follows the guidelines set forth by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA)

The CMAHD Inc endorses and follows the guidelines set forth by the Australian Institute of Sport for the Risk Management Process.

15. Fee Payment
Training fees are calculated on an annual basis and paid via direct debit on a monthly basis over 12 payments per year, and come out on the 1st of each month from January to December, this takes into account the holiday periods. Training fees can be cancelled at any time, but notice needs to be given before the 20th of the month prior to when you wish to cancel (otherwise the next monthly fee will be incurred but held in credit for the student if they return in the future). We do not have annual membership fees. If a student is away for 3 or more weeks during term time (not including our scheduled holidays), the fees can be put on hold.
